The Sensation Cosmos FINALLY bloomed more than one flower!
an assortment of cauliflower, broccoli, and cabbage (oh, and some volunteer potatoes)
Lutz Salad Leaf Beets in desperate need of thinning out
Tom Thumb Lettuce loving the cooler weather and abundance of rain
mystery lettuce in neon green
I'm not a big Okra person only because I didn't grow up eating and knowing how to cook it, but look at those monsters! They're the length of my forearm and STILL tender...
Red Romaine lettuce
I think this is a Sucrine du Berry squash, but can't be sure. There are three of them out there ripening.
Marigolds are apparently one thing you can't plant too close to one another. These things got enormous!
I really like how pretty the the moldy casings are on the dried beans.
Every time we get a new bag of food (...speaking of this, do any of you make your own chicken food mixture?)
(...and does anyone have advice on how better to feed ducks?)
We're getting boatloads of green peppers all the sudden!
The corn could really stand to come down this weekend... (fall decorating!)
Chioggia Beets are also loving the cooler temperatures
...and the Swiss Chard is so much more lustrous this time of year.
This year was not so hot for tomatoes, but we're still getting many of them from the vine. I blame user error: tight spacing, shaded by corn, black plastic and soggy roots, etc.
The onions are getting so tall!
These colors are so stunning!
Gene brought home 19 roosters from the farm for auction and they crowed in unison ALL MORNING today. Made me miss the sound of a single rooster, but not enough to keep one. ;) Oh, and the Eggplant this year! Holy cow! We've gotten dozens and dozens from just three plants. The flea beetles hurt their leaves too, but they just kept going! How's your garden growing? Only a few weeks until the expected frost date over here!

What kind of dried beans are those? They look productive!
ReplyDeleteThey were insanely productive!! They're McCaslan 42 pole beans from Baker's Creek. I am definitely planning to grow these again next year. They got HUGE and were still delicious and not woody at all. By the end of their run, I was so tired of snapping beans that I left them up to dry (per advice of Rohan from Whole Larder Love). Also, we had approximately 5 feet for them to grow up, but they would have grown up 10 or 12 at least if we could have let them. Finally, I think the less they're clumped together the more beans were produced. The picture shows our most productive plant with about a foot spacing from the next one.
ReplyDeleteA few weeks til frost!? That's what I thought until two nights in a row are forecasted for frost starting tomorrow and Monday. And as I recall we're a little bit more southly than y'all
ReplyDeleteHaha, the week after you posted that comment we got frost too. Maryland is funny like that though. Usually our first frost is around Halloween... Not to mention the Reservoir we live next to holds a lot of stability in temperature- but when it's cold it's COLD.
