sweet potato harvest

On Friday night temperatures dipped into the upper twenties! Our first frost! Before dark, I harvested the rest of the tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers. The next morning, the sweet potato vines had turned black. The gang headed out to harvest them. We couldn't BELIEVE how huge they were. Jamie ended up taking one (not even the biggest one) to work an it weighed in at over six pounds! We didn't even use manure in the soil this spring. The chickens are still picking through the vines.

We also decided to cut down all the peppers, okra, and corn. The girls and I tied up bunches of cornstalks all over the farm. Our house alone has six. Steph's house has three, the driveway has three, and the garden and chicken coop gates each have one. I can't believe that these things are sold for over $6 per bunch at the store! Even though the stinkbugs attacked the corn this year and made it inedible, the non GMO seeds are still intact for saving and we have awesome autumn decorations!
