winter mandala on a warm night

I'm writing this from Jamie's computer because mine, a hefty eight years old, is apparently considered "vintage" and replacement display screens are no longer sold for them. Oh, planned obsolescence, how you disappoint me... But I suppose it's a sign that new things must come in this new year, right? It's a sign that until I can get my hands on Rita's old computer (that she's so generously selling me) that I should have some time away from the internet. I'll still be here, but I'll be forcing myself not to hog Jamie's laptop and instead spending some time crafting and maybe even braving the cold and picking up the junk around the yard. (How does it accumulate so quickly?!)

But anyway, what I came here to share- this winter mandala. It's going to be on the back cover of Seasoned as a complimentary frame-able 8x10 print! In fact, each season will have its own mandala, so at the end of this upcoming year you could have a whole collection, which I myself am pretty darn excited to hang up together.

Mandalas are so fun to draw, and if you're the kind of person who's always like, "I don't know what to draw" or "I can't draw" or "I wanna draw but can't make my hand do what my mind wants" (trust me, I've been there) you should really try making one. Get a protractor and draw a bunch of circles around each other and just start filling them in with whatever you want. I used imagery from the front cover of Seasoned, but they're fun to make simply with patterns and doodles. I really feel like they're a form of ultimate meditation.

But I guess when a bunch of your friends are over playing UNO on the floor with guest kitties and the best of Chris Rock's SNL performances you can't exactly go into a deep meditation... ;)

Enjoy your start to the new year, friends!

  4. Hello! I found your blog through Julie's (I am one of the contributors to Seasoned) and I cannot express how much I love your art! The mandala is amazing. Can't wait to see what the other three seasons look like!

  5. Lauren, in my morning haze, I accidentally checked your comment as spam cause it was between two completely odd comments about Dubai shipping (or something along those lines.) So I'm sorry if you were notified of that and were confused. I've secretly been following your blog for a while (via Julie's as well) and love it! I'm just really bad at commenting. I have internet ADD, as I'm sure you can understand. Your boys are seriously too cute though. Aaaand I have dress-envy... just so ya know. Thank you for coming by, and for the compliments on my art. It's so encouraging to hear that others appreciate it. I'm getting so excited for the next three seasons myself! Julie and I started a new email thread all about spring yesterday! We just couldn't wait!
