Last week I wrote a little bit about organizing time. I had realized (after days of feeling ridiculously stressed and getting migraines) that the only one who could make the changes to help my days feel a little bit smoother was myself. I've always been a list maker, but sometimes I find that they're not as helpful as they should be. I tend to get overzealous and make a list that has so many to-do's on it that it's ultimately too overwhelming and only a quarter of the easy-peasy things get done. So I'd like to note here that I've only made one (reasonable) list since I wrote that blog post and it was created that day of- so far so good. Most of those jobs have been accomplished. I've been trying to divide my time up evenly between things that need and want to be done. An hour spinning, half an hour doing dishes, a couple hours for Seasoned, etc...
It's a good thing too, because all the sudden I have a sweet little birth announcement to illustrate, custom wedding invitations to write, and ewes that need shearing this month!
ps. I can't tell you how full it made me last night to read through all of the farmy pen-pal emails from you guys and match you up with friends. Expect emails soon, ladies!

I've found the same thing with list-making! I always have one "master to-do" list that never gets done because of its hugeness. But if I make a very small list the night before or day of, I can manage to accomplish most things on there. I read once that you should get your most dreaded task done first thing, to free up your mind for all the following things. I wish I was better about that - usually my dreaded task just keeps getting added to the top of the next list, until circumstances become dire and I can no longer put it off ;)

P.S What are those delicious looking things in your first photos? Scones and ???
ReplyDeleteI'm also a list maker and before i hoped that during time of a day was 72h : time to sleep, to cook, to eat, to take a bath, to see friends, to read, to work, to walk around the moutain with my dog ... but now I make short list and i'm happy because at the end of the day everything is done!
ReplyDeletegood luck!
Jaimie, good point about doing the most dreaded thing first. After I read that, you should feel good knowing that I hunkered down and did my own most dreaded to-do this very afternoon! As for noms... bread made from leftover pizza dough, olive oil, and butternut squash soup with sour cream and spinach. It was the PERFECT lunch/dinner. :)
ReplyDeleteLili, I think the short lists are where it's at for sure. I also like my sleep, so while I still wish that the days were a little bit longer, I know I'd be a grouchy mess. ;)
