My friend Rebecca is one of the most talented and creative knitters I know, and when she asked me if I'd make her first child's birth announcements in exchange for a couple pairs of socks, can you guess what my answer was? A resounding yes, of course. I can't wait to start drawing them after we get settled in our new home this weekend. My reward for getting them done on time is sharing with you the second pair of socks she made for me. The design is simple... not as intricate as the lacy gray ones, but the wool she used is deliciously soft and the fit is perfect. I am so in awe of people who can knit. I used to know how when I was a kid, but alas, I am forgetful...
Our barter inspired me to put some of my originals up for sale in my shop. There's nothing like holding something in your hands that the artist (or
knitter) spent hours pouring her love and energy into. For the longest time I've had an indescribable attachment to my originals, but seeing how willingly Rebecca gave me those beautiful socks shifted something in me. It helps that Spring is coming and I'm feeling ready for this new transition in our lives. I'm feeling ready to make our home in a different house, and I'm looking forward to sharing a bit more about how we came to this precipice in the coming month.
We officially switch houses tomorrow morning so please wish us luck. Oh! And cross your fingers that Butter's unborn lambiekin holds off from joining us in this world until at least Sunday. ;)
Have a restful weekend, friends.

Bonne Chance! Those socks looks so lovely and cozy and I just love your beautiful little pieces here. The second one reminds me of an illustrated children's book I used to pore over because I was fascinated by all the colourful, magical little details!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful illustrations, and those socks are mighty impressive! I've knit a few and they're pretty tough... I always loose steam on the second one :)

I love your drawings!!!
ReplyDeleteand socks too!
Metamorphocity, thank you for your sweet comment. I've never seen you around here before. If you remember the name of that book I would love to check it out. I have a collection of children's books because I get very inspired by vintage illustrations. :)
ReplyDeleteLilly, you've gotten further than me!! I bought sock yarn about a year ago and ended up just mailing it to her because the videos on youtube were too daunting. And thank you, by the way. :)
Lili, thank you for your compliments. I'll tell Rebecca you like her socks. She's so, so talented.
